Missions
At First Baptist Dawson, we have numerous opportunities to support and volunteer for missions. Below are just a few of the larger missions opportunities, but there are so many more.
Backpacks for Hope
First Baptist Church of Dawson annually collects items for Backpacks of Hope. We supply the backpacks and our congregation fills them up with school supplies, hygienic items, clothing, toys, etc.
In July, two couples from our church went to Williamsburg, KY to help distribute the Back to School backpacks for Appalachia. Our church joined the Summerhill Baptist and Merritt Associations in collecting over 500 backpacks for this project.
In 2017, Dawson, GA was designated as one of the locations to receive backpacks from the Backpacks of Hope Ministry and distributed over 400 backpacks within our community.
Honduras Mission Trip
We are proud to be a part of the Baptist Medical Dental Mission International (BMDMI) ministry in Honduras for over fifteen years. We send a team from our church every year to serve Christ through medical, dental, optical, construction, youth ministry, clothing distribution, and children’s ministries.
Savannah Mission Trip
In the fall, a group of people travel to Savannah for a three day mission trip. On this trip, we go to nursing homes, detention centers, half-way houses, drug and alcohol treatment centers, prisons, assisted living, and treatment centers for abused kids. We have puppets and skits in the beginning of the services, followed by singing both group and individuals, and then, finally, testimony and preaching, teaching or lay speaking.
The Summerhill Baptist Association has built a building to house 24 children at a children’s home operated by BMDMI costing $50,000, of which First Baptist raised $49,000 of the cost. We also raised the money and started the veterinary ministry to witness to farmers.
Each year we sponsor the mission with a $2,000 gift from our Mission budget. Our missionary teams help to draw thousands of people in to hear the gospel of Jesus Christ, while also meeting the physical needs related to medical and dental issues free of charge.
